6-30-2023 Update
Hello everyone! Since the last update, I’ve been working on a few gameplay changes as well as some big improvements to the game's visual effects.
One major gameplay change is the monster’s new “scout” ability. When the monster hears a sound, he will sometimes detach his eyes and send them out to search for you rather than moving to the sound himself. If the eyes find you, the monster’s body will rush to your location. This new behavior gives the player more warning, which has helped with balancing the game’s difficulty.
Another gameplay change is the difficulty system. The monster becomes more aggressive as you get closer to escaping. Your progress is mainly measured by how many locks on the exit door have been unlocked. To discourage exploiting this system, dropping the keys near the exit door or putting them all in a pile somewhere also increases the difficulty.
The new update brings some major improvements to the game’s visual effects. The noisy vignette that appears during a chase has been upgraded to be more cloudy and have more depth. Making eye contact with the monster distorts your vision by increasing the contrast and slightly shifting the camera’s FOV. Lastly, the dark vignette that appears when you take damage was upgraded to have a more fluid shape.
Other changes include improving the monster’s pathfinding, adding new key spawn locations, and many more small adjustments.
